About Omar

​As a senior business development manager at 1898 & Co., Omar helps clients solve their most challenging business and technology problems. Bringing together solutions from across 1898 & Co., he works to understand client needs and develop unique solutions that are designed to be successful in the field.

Omar attended Harvard University, where he studied mechanical engineering, and then went on to earn his doctorate in electrical power engineering from Texas A&M University. Starting at a cogeneration facility helping to model system optimization and provide end-stage engineering and construction oversight for renewable energy projects, he has prior experience dealing with design, operations and energy markets related to conventional and inverter-based generation. He also has extensive experience on the utility side via previous employment roles with system operators and transmission service providers, performing advanced transmission planning studies within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and across the country. Before joining 1898 & Co., he served as chairman on an ERCOT-level task force and interfaced with major generation and transmission service providers, supporting North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC) standard drafting teams with TPL-001-5 and TPL-007-4 as well as interpreting and drafting revisions to ERCOT Nodal Protocols and Operating and Planning Guidelines. Since joining 1898 & Co., he has led large transmission, distribution and economic planning consulting teams serving clients across the country.

With over two decades of experience leading NERC compliance and transmission and distribution modeling and planning projects, Omar helps his clients obtain the answers they need to make critical investment decisions. He helps focus the outcomes on win-win situations for large loads, generators and utility owners alike.

What motivates Omar
Omar recognizes the challenges his clients are facing, and that they are counting on him to deliver the projects they need to move forward. That trust and need to deliver time and time again keeps him focused on every project. Omar is passionate about the industry and the drive for electrification, and being able to work with clients who share that passion keeps him excited about the future and finding ways to continue to advance.

A little bit about Omar
When he’s not working on projects, Omar is found spending time with his kids, gardening and singing karaoke at home. A football player growing up, he got into cheerleading in college and still enjoys getting out to play sports with friends and family whenever he can.
