About Dean

As a senior management consultant at 1898 & Co., Dean focuses on helping clients improve their organizational performance across all aspects of their business. Through a unique combination of technical experience and 25 years of organizational leadership experience, he helps assess clients' current “ways of working,” works with the leadership team to envision the organizational future state and then designs a tailored road map to achieve that vision through demonstrable performance improvement.

Dean attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a degree in civil engineering, followed by a master’s in structural engineering from Stanford University.  Rounding out this technical education, he also obtained an Executive MBA as well as a master’s of strategy & operational art. Over his 25-year career, he has held a variety of roles, leading organizations from as small as 30 to over 20,000 personnel. He culminated his service as the director of concepts and requirements for Army Futures Command at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, envisioning and laying the foundation for the U.S. Army’s investments in science and technology to remain preeminent in a rapidly changing world.

How Dean helps his clients
Dean has a deep technical background with a professional engineer license from the state of Missouri as well as multiple engineering degrees. Broadening that technical background, he has significant experience managing large and complex organizations focusing on the people side of the equation. A certified change practitioner (CCP) and project management professional (PMP), he takes different disciplines and weaves them together into a coherent multi-disciplinary approach to solve an organization’s most pressing problems. Dean works to discover what a client wants and what needs to get done, and craft a unique solution to fit their needs.

What motivates Dean
Dean is driven by making a difference. He enjoys working with critical infrastructure industries as they undertake transformational challenges in adopting advanced digital tools and navigating the energy transition. He likes helping define what a new world looks like in times of increasing change.

A little bit about Dean
An ideal day off for Dean is spent on his property with his four children. He has a small farm with cows, goats, chickens and too many furry mammals to count. Dean considers it his piece of heaven.
